Under the CCPA, consumers have a right to obtain access to personal information collected about them by businesses. The CCPA, in turn, requires businesses to use reasonable security measures when transmitting that information to the consumers. If personal information is protected with appropriate data-level measures, it cannot be used by unauthorized parties, so consumers are left unharmed.
Protecting sensitive data with encryption is not an explicit requirement under the CCPA, but it is encouraged. Encrypting data may also help your organization avoid liability in the event of a breach.
